 Neuro- Ophthalmology and Orbit

Professionals in charge: Dr. Lidia López and Dr. Susana Ochoa Neuro-ophthalmology and Eye Movement Laboratory Neuro-ophthalmology is a subspecialty in neurology that investigates: a. Sensory diseases affecting the anterior optic pathway, i.e. the optic nerve, the optic chiasm and the retrochiasm visual pathway running through the temporal, parietal and occipital brain lobes where complex processing of visual images and associated functions (vision of color, form, space, and movement) takes place. b. Diseases affecting the ocular motor system such as injuries in the brainstem and injuries in the extraocular muscles at orbit cavity level. c. Neurovisual rehabilitation of superior visual functions and ocular motor training. The Neuro-ophthalmology clinic also has an eye laboratory providing color vision, sensory, and eye movement testing using high resolution micro videocam and digital laser projectors that allow for the study of ocular movement and neurologic disorders in children and adults.
