Disfluency Research and Development Program
Neurosciences

Director: Dr. Ramón C. Leiguarda
Codirectors: Dr. Gustavo Sevlever and Dr. Marcelo Merello

Since it was created, FLENI has strongly focused on medical research, specifically, in the field of neurosciences, implementing cutting edge healthcare technology. In fact, as a leader in this field in Argentina, FLENI is deeply committed with the medical community and the general public. The criteria used to measure academic excellence is research (technological innovation),  education (training and instruction) and transfer of technology (use of technological innovation in society).
Indeed, FLENI delivers quality medical care and successfully implements innovative scientific findings in healthcare services. However, these goals must be part of the institutional strategy, carefully planned and continuously revised based on specific programs.
Additionally, FLENI is now facing a major administrative and data collection challenge involving how to obtain and manage resources, and integrate them effectively to the long term management strategy. For this reason, a new Medical Sciences Department, codirected by Ramón Leiguarda MD, Gustavo Sevlever MD and Marcelo Merello MD, has been created. The sciences department encompasses all the medical disciplines available at FLENI, from basic sciences to primary care specialties, and it is projected to expand as new programs are introduced. The former Education and Research Committee is incorporated in the Medical Sciences Department to coordinate and plan graduate and postgraduate research and educational activities, develop basic sciences specialties and act as link between FLENI and  the public and private universities which are currently connected with FLENI and the future University Institute.

Basic Objectives
1- Develop FLENI academic activities and promote basic and healthcare research and undergraduate and postgraduate education
2- Transfer diagnosis, therapy and technology innovations developed and implemented by FLENI  to the scientific community
3- Support continuous, systematic service, department and section quality improvement plans. Promote and contribute to project development, planning, analysis of statistics, and outcomes to be included in scientific publications. Identify departments, services or sections with substandard scientific outcomes, “critical areas”, problems and solutions
4- Promote “Node Services” useful in various areas and departments
5- Plan research work
6- Deliver statistical and methodological support services
7- Build technology patenting awareness and outline the relevant policy
8- Develop a care data collection, management and distribution program. Database, accessibility
9- Be the link between FLENI and future medical school and other academies
10- Provide faculty support for residents and postgraduates
11- Establish partnerships with other centers
12- Analyze the technology investment policy vis a vis FLENI’s needs and team projects, achievements and performance
13- Formulate technology investment guidelines
14- Create a professional committee and resources policy
15- Plan and implement basic research
