The Department of Psychiatry at FLENI is fully committed to providing comprehensive, top quality  psychiatric and psychological treatment and rehabilitation to meet patient and family needs from a gentle, caring, approach and paying special attention to patient privacy. Therapy is firm, honest and, above all, ethical.
The qualified, professional and customized-oriented care FLENI provides and planned multidisciplinary team approach allows for the integration of theory and practice in the field of mental health, a precious tool in mental illnesses of psychiatric origin.
The Department of Psychiatry at FLENI offers a spectrum of services comprising: Mental Healthcare, Education and Research.
Department activities comprise:


I. MEDICAL CARE
1.Outpatient Care
The Department offers outpatient care through Clinics or Customized Programs for different illnesses, following current international standards for:
· Anxiety Disorders
· Depression Disorders  
· Schizophrenia and other Psychotic Disorders
· Personality Disabilities
· Eating Disorders
· Sexual Disorders
· Psychosomatic Disorders
· Late Adolescence
· Psychiatric Disabilities in Gerontology
· Dysfunctional Family and Dysfunctional Couples
· Support Group for patients and family with Physical Disabilities 
· Multidisciplinary Support: Psychiatric Interconsultation
                                           Psychological Preoperative Prophylaxis


2. Psychiatric Inpatient Care
Our team of professionals conduct daily evaluations and follow up (1 or 2 visits a day). In-depth outcomes are reported, approximately, after a week (tests, imaging, among others).


3. Multidisciplinary Support
A. Patient Screening. Detection and Treatment of Psychiatric Comorbidity.

4. Psychiatric Emergencies
FLENI Belgrano provides 24x7x365 mental health services at the ER and coordinated home service from  Central FLENI ER.


5. Coordinated Homecare Service
The Coordinated Home Service offers psychiatric follow up and treatment for patients at home, living in the city of Buenos Aires and  some areas in the Northern Suburbs.
 
6. Psychoeducational Programs
. Psychoeducational programs for patients, families and caregivers.

DIAGNOSIS METHODOLOGY
Based on effective, multidisciplinary, integrated, comprehensive approach, emphasizing the different biological, psychological and social aspects of each person, the Service implements innovative evaluation and diagnosis techniques according to the profile of patients  that comprise:
· Neuroimaging together with Department of Radiology
· Neurophysiological studies of the CNS and PNS together with the Department of Neurophysiology
· Psychometric Psychic and Mental  Functional Tests
· Standard Psychological and Psychiatric Evaluations
THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
The approach is based on state of the art techniques customized to meet the specific needs of patients:
· Individual and Group Therapy: Psychodynamic and Cognitive Therapies
· Psychopharmacological Treatment: based on modern, widely tested psychotropic agents for mental disability treatments
·  Biological Therapy
-  C.E.S.: Computerized Electrotherapy Stimulation
-  rTMS: repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
-  VNS: Vagal Nerve Stimulation
     *both for inpatients and ambulatory patients.


II. EDUCATION
Education is oriented towards training and teaching  doctors and skilled non-psychiatrists healthcare workers. It comprises:
· Continuing Education
· Residencies in Medicine
· Multidisciplinary Discussion Groups
· Balint Groups


III. RESEARCH
Continuing research is essential to acquire more knowledge and design new healthcare techniques. The material process of research enables us to follow these objectives and build stronger bonds among the members of the staff. Also, it constitutes the basis of FLENI, which is principally oriented to excellence in medical care.
Currently, the Psychiatry department at FLENI is doing research in  different fields:
· Controlled Pharmacological Clinical Protocols.
· Evaluation of New Techniques for Diagnosis in Psychiatry.
· Development of Modern Therapeutic Techniques: Psychotherapy, Psychopharmacology and Biology.
